Lucky, the homeless man, is indeed, lucky. A kind woman outside a Walmart store changed their luck for the better.
On Tuesday night Audria Roettgen saw the two begging in freezing conditions.
“I just couldn’t leave him there,” Roettgen told KRCG.
They rode a cab and went to a Baymont Inn and Suites – a hotel specifically requested by Lucky because it is one of the rare pet-friendly ones in the area.
“My buddy comes first,” Lucky talks about Tiger. “I’m happy to be here, but as long as I’m able to take care of him, that’s the main thing.”
Roettgen could see the special bond between man and dog.
“I saw him that night at Walmart, obviously somebody had given him food. He was actually feeding that food to the dog instead of himself,” she said.
The kind woman took care of a two-night stay for Lucky and Tiger. This sparked a Facebook post from the hotel that soon went viral.
KRCG reported that Lucky and Tiger had received accommodation for 10 nights – their room was paid for by people who had seen the hotel’s Facebook post and wanted to help out. The well-wishers come from seven different states!
The hotel said the act was inspiring. They wanted to help by making a donation worth twice what the room costs to a local animal shelter. The hotel management says all profits from Lucky and Tiger’s stay will also go to a shelter – a stay that continues grow longer.
On January 10, the hotel said that the donations earned for the pair can cover their stay at the hotel until at least the end of the January! People are also helping in other ways, including donating groceries, dog food, and assisting with veterinary bills for Tiger.
The world will be a better place with good-hearted people around!
