A black Labrador Retriever, J-Lo, from Longmont is headed to Westminster. Could this be the Labrador to change the Lab’s dismal record at the most prestigious dog show of all.
The Labrador has won just about the “best of everything”. They’re America’s and the world’s favorite breed. But, the Lab has never won Best In Show at the AKC Westminster Show in the nearly 140 years that they’ve competed. In fact, since 1923 the Labrador has never even won the Sporting group’s Best in Group award!
Jessmor’s Juno, aka “J-Lo, is a home-grown black Labrador owned and trained by Susan Burke-Rose. The pair will compete against the country’s top Labrador Retrievers at Westminster next week in the Best of Breed competition.
Can they win the coveted prize and then go all the way to Best of Show?
This is the first year Rose will be showing her own dog. She has trained others dogs for the Westminster show in the past.
Rose says J-Lo has been training to become a show dog since she was a puppy.
J-Lo is a natural. The famous show stance that judges look for, comes naturally to this Labrador. The Lab has competed in the show ring since she was 6 months old, and has won many Best of Breed awards around the country.
This is the Labrador’s first trip to the AKC Westminster Dog Show held at Madison Square Garden on February 16 & 17.
Rose says she always knew her pup was destined to be a superstar, which is how she gained the nickname “J-Lo.”
