Last month, the Today Show welcomed the newest member of their television family – a guide dog in training!
The Lab is the show’s “Puppy with a Purpose” and viewers were asked to help choose his name. The viewers have spoken — the Lab puppy is now named Wrangler! This cute name earned almost half of the 80,000 votes!
For 16 months, the Today Show family will help raise Wrangler and help the puppy become a guide dog in the future. If he isn’t charming celebrities like Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, and Naomi Campbell, Wrangler plays inside his very own Orange Room inside Studio 1A.
Wrangler shared his morning routine!
In his post in TODAY.com, he shares that he wakes up at 3:15 a.m. to be on time for the show. First, he has breakfast with his brother, Vincent. Then, he and his raiser, Saxon, pack up his toys, treats, and leash.
When he arrives at Studio 1A, he greets Matt and Carson, and all his other new friends!
When it’s not his turn to charm the audience with his cuteness, he is inside his pen – theOrange Room—playing and chewing on his toys and nylabones.
Wrangler also ‘wrote’ in his article:
“On the TODAY set, there are always a lot of different noises and strange objects, and being in New York, I am exposed to everything the city has to offer. Having these experiences as a puppy will help me stay focused in the busy world when I am responsible for guiding someone and keeping them safe.
I also get to greet, be held and loved on by many different people who come through the Orange Room. Though I won’t be visiting with people when I am guiding someone, it is important that I am very social and not fazed by the people around me. Also, being held and petted by all the different celebrities helps me with my body handling. Someday, my handler might not be able to see where they are touching me when they reach out for me, so it is very important that I am accepting of being touched anywhere on my body.”
Wrangler seems like a wise dog for his age! We’re sure he’ll make a perfect Labrador guide dog!
