Thousands of doggie photos posted on Facebook have helped to cheer up, Anthony, a young leukemia patient. The first event page may have been taken down but it didn’t stop the outpour of doggie photos and well wishes. A new event page has been created and is consistently receiving lots of dog photos.

Last year, Anthony Lyons from Arizona was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia after getting sick during a summer trip with his grandparents.

Thousands Of Dog Photos Cheer Up Young Leukemia PatientRoberta Lucero-Koron created a Facebook event encouraging people to submit photos of dogs to make him feel better.

Lucero-Koron originally wrote on the page:  “Hi all, my friend Kristen Lyons has her son Anthony at Phoenix Children’s hospital. Some days he gets doggy visits [in pet therapy sessions] and some he does not. “

More than 1 million Facebook users ‘attended’ the ‘Photo Doggies for Anthony’ event hoping to cheer the boy up. The attendees post photos of their dogs accompanied by their well wishes.

“They make him smile. I thought if I create this event, you can post a picture of your dog to help make him smile. His mom shows them to him and he smiles,” Lucero-Koron said.

Hundreds of thousands of doggie photos have been posted to the event page.

Anthony Lyons also has in-person therapy sessions with animals. Anthony has also posted a selfie he took with one of the therapy dogs. The photo shows Anthony with an English Mastiff name Gus.

Like I can be in here having a really bad day and then one of the dogs will show up and it will be the highlight of the day,” he told KSAZ. “When I’m in the hospital bed all day my mom goes through all the pictures, she sees them all. She’ll show me them all, doesn’t matter, but the special ones are the funniest ones.”

Anthony’s mother, Kristen Lyons, also wrote online that her son had to return to the hospital on January 2 for inpatient chemotherapy. She is grateful to Lucero-Koronand the Facebook users who sent their photos.

She wrote:“I am amazed at how quickly this event has blown up and it makes me so happy to know how many people enjoy their pets as much as Anthony and I do. Your pets have brightened our days so much and it just shows you the power of pet therapy and animal healing.”
