Lady, a Black Labrador Retriever whose original owner died in 2012, was adopted by a family from Kansas who later gave her up when they got a young pup. The family thought it would be best to send Lady to a shelter rather than spend her golden years with them.
Lady got adopted by a new family. Unfortunately, she escaped her new home and walked 30 miles to get back to her old family. Sadly, her second family didn’t want her back so she ended back at the shelter alone and homeless.
Helen Rosburg, heir to the Wrigley chewing gum fortune, read Lady’s story when she was in Hawaii. She was moved by it and decided to do something to help the old Lab. Helen had recently lost her senior black Lab named Granny. Helen asked her staff to contact the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter, where Lady was waiting for a new home, to adopt the dog.
The lucky Lab took a private jet Thursday and arrived at Tampa to meet her new family and mommy!
