On Wednesday, a retired military Labrador reunited with her owner after going missing on Memorial Day.
Lance Corporal Matthew Walter’s Labrador Retriever, Ruby, went missing on Memorial Day weekend.
Walters said Ruby escaped while he was off visiting family.
Ruby and Walters served in Afghanistan together twice. According to friends, Walters and the Labrador are very close – to a point that Ruby gets very anxious when Walters leaves home. In the past the Labrador Retrieverhad tried to go follow him when he went away.
“A friendship and lasting bond was forged as Ruby and Corporal Walters learned together how to find improvised explosive devices, commonly referred to as IEDs. Together, these two Marines survived a deployment in the most violent regions of Afghanistan where one’s life can end instantly in a cloud of smoke. Lives and limbs were lost and there were many occasions when Corporal Walters and his buddies didn’t think they would ever make it back home,” Walters’ mother posted on her Facebook page.
The good news came on Wednesday, June 3.
Walters’ roommate confirmed that Ruby was found in Eatonville and is now back with her owner.
