The Animal Defense League took in a nearly 2-year-old Labrador Retriever mix on Monday, September 8.
The dog, named Cecilia, was found by ADL volunteers after she was abandoned in their parking lot.
The Lab was infested with fleas and ticks. She showed signs that she had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.
An X-ray showed that she was not only pregnant again, but also dozens of circular metal pellets lodged in her body.
The pellets closely resembled the ammunition of a shotgun.
Fortunately, the veterinary staff found that the pellets are not threatening the Lab or her puppies’ lives.
When the ADL staff arrived early on Tuesday morning, they discovered that Cecilia had already given birth to six puppies during the night.
Cecilia and her pups are now resting at the shelter. The shelter is looking for a foster home for the dogs.
For those who have the heart and room for these dogs and are interested in fostering them, you can contact ADL’s Foster Department at 210-655-1481 ext. 123.
You may also e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All needed supplies for the family while in foster care will be provided by ADL at no cost to the foster parents.
