“Owner surrender is a death sentence, particularly for older dogs,” Nancy Stoorza of the Houston-based 4 Paws Farm told The Dodo.

“We were making no headway getting through to the shelter,” Stoorza said, so they contacted friends in San Antonio. “They stepped up immediately,” she added. Dog lovers rallied together to bring this sweet dog from the brink of death. “We are fortunate to have willing friends.”

Happily, Lucky was rescued from what would have been a certain fate. One of the friends of 4 Paws adopted Lucky. Now she has the home she deserves.

Lucky, who is “very sweet and loving,” shows how dogs fall on hard times when their humans do.
