In Evansville, an 8-year old chocolate Labrador called Boogie joined the runners at the start of the YMCA Half Marathon on Reitz Hill. The Labrador ran and completed the entire race without any human assistance. For this achievement he was awarded a medal at the downtown YMCA.
Nobody knew who the Labrador belonged to when he crossed the finish line and Boogie was taken to a shelter for some much needed rest. Police sent out an alert and many people began posting about Boogie, the racing dog, on Facebook.
When his owner, Jerry Butts, noticed that Boogie was missing, he went looking for him at the animal shelter. That’s when he found out about the his dog’s achievement.
Boogie and his owner have been happily reunited.
The officials of the race do not have Boogie’s race times as he had not been officially registered for the race.
After an award and fame, fortune will have to follow. Boogie will take his time to consider any potential sponsors for his next race.
