The starving Labrador was found by a couple at Scar, Duncormick, last weekend. The male Labrador’s mouth was taped with duct tape, probably to stop it barking to attract attention.
The Lab would have died from thirst and hunger if it weren’t for the couple, said the WSPCA’s Brigid Cullen.
“I can’t understand why someone would do something like this, it’s beyond anything you could imagine,” she said. “Why didn’t they contact us or the dog warden and even say they had a stray that needed picking up.”
The Labrador is thought to be around five or six years old. He is now being cared for by the WSPCA.
“He is very thin, but very friendly. In fact he was giving the paw to the couple who found him and to all of us,” Cullen said.
Brigid also said that the Labrador seemed to be a family pet.
“He could be a family pet that someone just wanted to get rid of, or a neighbor’s dog that was barking,” she said. “I can’t understand how someone could do this..the level of cruelty is just getting worse.”
The Lab is currently under the WSPCA ‘s care and already has several re-homing offers.
Anyone who has any information about the person who tied the Lab to the tree should call the WSCPA on (053) 9143919.
