In Cleveland, a Labrador stuck on frozen Lake Erie for five days has been rescued and reunited with her owner.

Kimberly, a black Labrador Retriever, ran away from her Lorain home on Sunday, said owner Amy Pritchard.

After a failed attempt by Bay Village firefighters, members of the Coast Guard tried to save the young Lab on Thursday. The rescue was eventually called off that day because of dangerous ice conditions.

One woman also tried to lure Kimberly by grilling hot dogs by the lakeshore.

On Friday afternoon, a rescue team on an airboat went out to rescue the Labrador and it was a success!

Air1airboats’ boat captain Tony Muscioni and Channel 3’s Mike O’Mara managed to get near the Lab. Muscioni even got out of the airboat and stepped on the ice to be with the dog.

Photojournalist George Payamgis, who was still filming during the rescue, grabbed the Labrador by the collar and brought her onto the boat.

As soon as the Labrador reached the shore, she started licking her owner’s face!

The Coast Guard reminds residents near the lake to leash their dogs since the ice is starting to break and is very unpredictable.
