It seems that Labrador Retriever, Lola, wanted to join a monastery! The Lab swam half a mile off Tenby beach towards Caldey Island, home to Cisterian monks.
Lola, the Labrador, had already swum half a mile (800 meters) when lifeguards caught up with her. She had another two miles to go to reach Caldey Island.
The Labrador‘s worried owners sought the help of a lifeguard and told him that their dog was missing. Eventually three boats and a paddle board were deployed to search for Lola and she was found 800m from the beach.
The RNLI said Lola showed “some resistance” when they tried to get her onto a boat, but they eventually managed to return the Labrador to her grateful owners.
“Keeping people safe is the main focus for our highly trained lifeguards, but the team on Tenby south beach were more than happy to help bring Lola back safely to her owners,” Adam Pitman of RNLI said.
