Meet Gabe! The proud and noble Labrador Retriever that walked away with top honors at this year’s American Humane Association’s 2012 Hero Dog awards.
The guest of honor rubbed “paws and elbow”s with Hollywood’s celebrities at the gala event hosted by Betty White. It was a truly well-deserved win for this amazing former combat dog who served his country well in Iraq.
Proud owner of this regal Labrador Retriever, Sgt. 1st Class Charles Shuck describes Gabe as “his life” adding “I really don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have this boy everyday” … “dog’s pick up on things that humans can’t see….and get the bad guys off the street”. Watch the interview in the video below.
Gabe made a name for himself while deployed in Iraq. His tasks including sniffing for weapons, bombs and other dangers. With more than 200 combat missions and 26 explosives and weapons finds, this amazing Labrador is now heading for a well-deserved retirement. He has been adopted by Sgt. Shuck and can look forward to some well-earned leisure-time. We wish Gabe well and thank those who honor the amazing dogs who work tirelessly in service to humankind.
Earlier in the year, Gabe won the military dog category of the competition and won $5,000 for or his charity of choice, the United States War Dogs Association. His latest win adds another $10 000 to the kitty. Voting in the contest took place online.
If this beautiful and brave Labrador Retriever could talk, he’d no doubt have amazing stories to tell.
“The more people I meet, the more I like my Labrador Retriever.”
