In Peru, a teenager risked his life to save a Labrador puppy from rising floods.
The dramatic video shows a black Labrador puppy stranded in the middle of a river.
A policeman first tried to get to the pup in the Peruvian capital Lima after locals spotted him stuck in the river. The poor pup appears to have become trapped on top of a tiny island of trash in the middle of the flooded Rimac River.
Unfortunately, the current was too strong for policeman Ricardo Clemente as he was quickly plunged underwater and swept 200 meters downstream. Luckily, he was able to pull himself ashore.
“There was a difficult area to overpass and this stopped me,” he said. “The current was too strong and I couldn’t get to my objective. I was lucky enough to swim out of the river.”
That’s when 19-year-old Santiago Garay stepped in to rescue the whimpering pup.
He grabbed an old tire and began to brave the raging waters to save the Labrador. He tied a rope around the puppy’s body as onlookers watched on.
While the dog was tossed about and carried down the river, the rope tightly wrapped around him eventually allowed the pup to be pulled to safety.
The Labrador puppy received medical attention and was comforted by residents who witnessed the rescue.
