In Alabama, a Gulf Shores Police Department police dog has died after he was left inside a hot patrol car.
On Thursday, Corporal Josh Coleman and Mason, a 3 year old Labrador, attended the Hurricane prep conference in Gulf Shores.
Coleman says he forgot the police dog was in the backseat and left the dog inside the patrol car. When he noticed Mason was missing, Coleman immediately checked the patrol car and found the dog in distress.
Mason was rushed to a veterinarian. The Labrador was then transferred to another vet in Pensacola.
Gulf Shores Police say the police dog was improving Friday morning, but died later in the evening.
Mason became a member of the Gulf Shores Police Department on November 17, 2014. The department just celebrated the dog’s third birthday on June 9.
Initially, the police department and Baldwin County District Attorney’s office announced they were not pressing charges against Coleman. But on Tuesday, the District Attorney office switched course. Coleman will face a grand jury review and charges may be filed afterwards.
