military-dog-earl-and-master-to-reunite-8ad54Years after the two were separated, a US Marine who worked in a bomb team in Afghanistan was reunited with his canine partner, a black Labrador named Earl. Based on the Providence Journal, Lance Cpl. Brad O’Keefe had serious injuries from an IED explosion in 2010. Earl, his Labrador Retriever, was reassigned and he was eventually sent home to Rochester, N.Y.

Throughout the years, O’Keefe and his family continued to look for Earl. O’Keefe’s sister, Rachel Lawson, even created a Facebook page called Bring MWD Earl Home to try to locate the dog.

On May 31, the family managed to track Earl to Rhode Island, where he was working with state police.

Earl was one among the four surplus military dogs found in North Carolina and has been assigned to Trooper Damien Maddox. On June 21, 2013, the pair were reunited in a ceremony at State Police headquarters in Scituate, R.I. O’Keefe and Earl hadn’t seen one another since April 14, 2013. Earl is currently retired and back with O’Keefe.
