Who would have thought a deer to be aggressive?
A black Labrador was mauled by a deer and is in bad shape.
Rowdy, that Lab, was attacked by a buck in a Milwaukee County park.
“There was a big buck and a doe. The doe ran right away. And he just came charging out,” owner Ted Moss said.
He said he was walking his dogs in Grant Park on November 4 when the buck came out of the forest and attacked Rowdy.
The incident happenedat 8 in the morning near the golf course. According to Moss, he has a conceal carry permit and a pistol.
“And she (Rowdy) was yipping and screaming, and I pulled my pistol out, and I shot,” Moss said.
The buck ran off leaving Rowdy severely injured.
Milwaukee County Park Department’s Guy Smith warns the county residents because it is deer mating season and dog owners should be careful.
“It is absolutely unusual. It is not the norm. One of the things that I would suggest for anyone, specifically in Milwaukee County parks, when you’re walking your dog, it’s to be on a leash,” Smith said.
Moss took Rowdy to a rescue veterinarian in Illinois.
Rowdy is on the road to recovery and is expected to return home on Saturday.
In 2011, Moss collapsed in a snow bank during a blizzard and his dog at the time, Buddy alerted a neighbor who saved Moss’ life. Unfortunately, Buddy passed away due to Lyme disease.
Rowdy has become his new Buddy since then.
