This is one of the largest multi-organization rescues ever. It is scheduled to start on October 5, 2013. They plan to transport hundreds of rescue pets from various kill-facilities in the Hinesville, Georgia area. The pets will be transported to rescue groups in the northeastern U.S. and Florida.
Operation Special Delivery will also include a number of dogs from a high-kill shelter near the Fort Stewart military base being rescued by Guardians of Rescue.
Pilots from Pilots N Paws will fly dozens of planes and Animal Aid USA volunteers will drive a caravan of vehicles from New Jersey to Georgia.
The Fort Stewart dogs will be trained to become service and comfort companions through the Guardians of Rescue’s “Paws of War” program for veterans suffering from PTSD and challenges.
Jodie Richers of Dogs on Death Row will also join the mass rescue to offer support to the life-saving efforts of the M.O.M.S. Rescue organization who will be responsible for the placement and transportation of the animals saved in rescue.
In addition to the animals being relocated from Georgia, the ASPCA® will simultaneously transport 50-80 dogs from a neighboring community in South Carolina as part of the same operation. The Beaufort County Animal Shelter and Hilton Head Humane Society will prepare animals for a life-saving ride provided by Loving Friends Transport of Clearwater, Fla. and funded by the ASPCA. The animals will be delivered to various destination organizations in the Northeast where they will be available for adoption.
