Months ago, a giant mutant spider dog terrified the city. Chica the Spider Dog‘s scaring spree was made into a film by his human, a Polish film maker. Their mini movie has been named the biggest trending video on YouTube for 2014.
The video was posted in September and has received a whopping 113 million views since then. The Mutant Giant Spider Dog video was also the most shared and discussed online video, according to YouTube.
Katy Perry’s Dark Horse music video was the most popular video with 715 million views, while Facebook recorded over 3 billion interactions about the Brazil World Cup this year.The most played games on Facebook were Bubble Witch 2 Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga.
Google, YouTube’s parent company, has released lists of the most watched material on YouTube.
“It’s reassuring that the likes of YouTube and Facebook can reconnect us with both the lowest and highest forms of cultural content,” said Simon Collister of the London College of Communication.
“Despite that we need caution about relying too much on these platforms,” he added.”There’s a whole debate about algorithms – particularly with news consumption – we have to be careful that we don’t let the platforms themselves dictate too much to us what we should and shouldn’t be watching.”
