Are these the Labs to watch at Westminster this year?
A father daughter Labrador Retriever duo will compete against each other in the show ring at the 2015 Westminster Dog Show.
The Labs – father – Echo (Grand Ch. Casbar’s A Hart Act To Follow) and daughter – Solo (Rambo’s Fly’n Solo) – are from York County. They are owned by Jeff Moore.
Father Echo is no stranger to the show ring. This will be his third attempt. In 2014 he made it through to the last round.
Daughter Solo had a tough start in life. She was a single-pup sired by Echo who had to be delivered by caesarean section.
“She had to be hand-fed from the day she was born,” Moore told PENN Live. He took her to work and kept her in a drawer in his office in the early days.
The dogs run two miles every morning to get into top shape for the show. They are also groomed every second day.
“It’s all we do – watch their diet, make sure they’re well-exercised,” Moore said.
“Echo is “very goofy,” but when he goes in the ring, it’s like something clicks and he’s automatically in show dog mode. Solo is the same way, only she’s a little more serious.”
Moore is an “old-hand” at dog showing. He has bred and shown dogs for 25 years.
“I only breed when I need something to start in a show and we always have extra puppies for pets. We’re responsible breeders,” he said.
Moore travels with the Labradors to about eighty dog shows a year, up and down the east coast.
“I love ’em – they’re like my kids. The shows are kinda fun – it’s like a day out for the kids,” Moore said.
