Chicago police rescued a Labrador mix who was shot in the head by her owner during a domestic dispute.
Vets say the officers rushed the dog to BluePearl Veterinary Partners Hospital to save her life.
The 6-year-old Labrador-Shepherd mix named Sophie is weak and showing signs of neurological trauma.
“It’s only been 36 hours since it happened and she’s already up and walking, and eating, and going to the bathroom outside so those are really good signs,” the vet who attended Sophie says. “With neurologic trauma, it’s one of the things you just have to give time.”
Frankie’s Friends, a charitable pet foundation, is raising money for Sophie’s care — which could be about $10,000.
