A year ago, 11 Red Heeler-Chocolate Labrador mixes were born on a reservation in Santee, Nebraska.
The owner couldn’t take care of them all so the pups were adopted by several families through the Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue.
The first to adopt were Chelsea Chell and her husband, Matt.
The compassionate couple created a Facebook page to keep in touch with the other families.
“Everyone is really friendly, we’re all alike in loving our animals,” Chell said. “We like to post pictures of them and brag about them a little bit.”
According to Chell, they’ve been able to learn from each other when it comes to raising their new pets and some families even went to dog school together.
And just last Sunday, all 11 were reunited for the first time to celebrate their 1st birthday party – all grown and well-behaved!
“This is certainly a unique situation,” Karl Skinner of the Nebraska No kill Canine Rescue said.
“It’s really been wonderful to see them all stay connected. It’s kind of like a community within a community.”
What a lovely story!
